Guttate Psoriasis - Clogged Pores

Guttate psoriasis is a skin condition in which small, red, and scaly teardrop-shaped spots appear on the arms, legs, and middle of the body. Guttate means "drop" in Latin. Guttate Psoriasis is also know as "Eruptive psoriasis". The condition often develops very suddenly, usually after an infection, most notably strep throat,  also Guttate psoriasis is not contagious. Psoriasis seems to be passed down through families (hereditary).

Guttate psoriasis is a type of psoriasis that looks like small, salmon-pink drops on the skin. The word guttate is derived from the Latin word gutta, meaning drop. Usually there is a fine scale on the drop like lesion that is much finer than the scales in plaque psoriasis, which is the most common type of psoriasis.

The following may trigger an attack of guttate psoriasis:
- Strep Throat
- Injury to the skin, including cuts, burns, and insect bites
- Bacteria or viral infections,
- Stress
- Sunburn
- Excessive Alcohol


Types of Psoriasis;
- Plaque Psoriasis,

- Erythrodermic psoriasis

- Guttate psoriasis

The most common is plaque psoriasis and usually appears on the elbows, knuckles, knees, and scalp but can appear on other body parts including the legs and arms.

Guttate Psoriasis Causes;
Guttate psoriasis causes are listed below, an outbreak of guttate psoriasis is thought to be triggered by a previous streptococcal infection or some other type of infection.

Conditions that may trigger Guttate Psoriasis;
- Streptococcal infection:
- Viral infections, such as chickenpox, rubella, and roseola, may also trigger outbreaks in children.
stress
- Excessive alcohol consumption,
- Sunburn,
- Skin injuries,
- Chemotherapy,
- Rheumatoid arthritis,

Guttate Psoriasis Symptoms;
- Small, salmon-pink (or red) drops usually appear suddenly on the skin two to three weeks after a streptococcal infection
- The droplike lesions usually itch.
-  Nail changes, such as pits and ridges, which are characteristic of chronic psoriasis, may be absent.
- The outbreak usually starts on the trunk, arms, or legs and sometimes spreads to the face, ears, or scalp. The palms and the bottoms of the feet are usually not affected.


Guttate Psoriasis Treatment;
This type of psoriasis may be treated at home in most mild to moderate cases. 
- Keeping the skin moist will prevent extra irritation. 
- Graded increases in sun exposure may be quite helpful in diminishing the eruption.
- Over the counter topical steroids may help to reduce inflammation and itching.


Home Remedies for Psoriasis;
The following are my suggestion for Guttate Psoriasis home remedy, these home remedies does not carry the side effects as other over-the-counter prescriptions.

- Crisco. Put Crisco oil on psoriasis patches

- Beta Carotene, Take in more beta carotene. This can be found mainly in carrots and red vegetables.

- Evening Primrose. Include an Evening Primrose supplement in your daily routine.

- Vitamin E. Dab pure vitamin E oil on psoriasis. This vitamin is known for its strong skin healing powers

- Coal Tar Ointment, 

- Salicylic Acid

- Tan. Use a tanning bed. Light booths help to dry up and heal psoriasis.

Acute Guttate Psoriasis are usually treated with
- Cortisone (anti-itch and anti-inflammatory) cream
- Dandruff shampoos (over-the-counter or prescription)
- Lotions that contain coal tar
- Moisturizers
- Prescription medicines containing vitamin D or vitamin A (retinoids)

Persons with very severe Guttate Psoriasis may be treated with these medicine;
- Corticosteroids
- Cyclosporine
- Methotrexate.


An episode of guttate psoriasis may last several weeks or months, and then fades away. Also Guttate psoriasis can occur in individuals previously diagnosed with plaque psoriasis. If someone is having repeated bouts of guttate, they should tested to see if they are a carrier of strep.
